DRIFTING
you wanted it so much
and it was in the queue
lined up, packaged,
almost slipped it in, too
but what do you do
in the middle of the night now?
and what is it that’s been
keeping you up?
there’s a lot not to say
and I don’t.
in case it trips some wires
sends somebody off into an ether
big jumble of all this life
said it’s fine,
said it’s understandable, said it’s okay
i’ll retreat into the bower
turn it up a notch
you’re not hurting me anymore
you’re just drifting on a coast
you don’t understand
one day, you’re gonna stop running
and one day your mouth
is gonna get stuffed
with all those words
you don’t bother pouring out
on account of being real cool and all
and i’ll be catching meteors with my bare hands
to feel a searing pain
like the time you gave me
